Kathy Corbet’s Fall Favorites

It’s October, which means we’re FINALLY in the fall season. Here are some of my favorite things to enjoy this time of year.

1. Pumpkin Spice

Yes, I can’t help but love the popular fall spice blend. And guess what? It happens to be a trendy color right now too! These earth tones are a great “transition” color to start warming the grey shades from the last few years. Bring in slate blue or an earthy green like I did below for the coziest room ever.

2. A Fire

I love the ambiance of the cool outdoors paired with the warmth of a fire.

This Bioblaze ethanol wall-hung fireplace makes the rooftop terrace so inviting. Unlike burning wood, the ethanol fireplace doesn’t emit dangerous fumes or carcinogens when burning, so it doesn’t require a chimney and doesn’t leave any soot on the walls. It is a great way to enjoy the warmth and atmosphere of a fireplace without the fuss.

3. Scarves and wraps

I collect scarves and wraps and keep them hanging on an antique ladder in my bedroom for easy access and a captivating display.

As soon as the morning temperature drops below 65, I wrap one around my neck to keep away the chill. Back when I worked in the Garment Center in New York, I would buy beautiful scarves and cut them apart to design unique prints that were mass manufactured for skirts!

4. Scotch

The warming spirit is a great chill chaser at the end of the day. I designed this bar below, for a client in North Carolina who thanked me with a bottle of scotch!

I imagine there has been a fair amount of chill chasing here.

5. Sleeping With The Windows Open

Cool autumn nights provide the best sleeping weather ever! Now may also be an excellent time to talk about a well-appointed bed.

My formula:

  1. Start with your personal preference of a duvet or coverlet

  2. Add two king shams or three euro shams to conceal the sleeping pillows.

  3. Then top it off with one or two decorative pillows

Now you’ve got a stylish look that isn’t too overwhelming.

6. Cooking Season Officially Starts

When the first day of fall hits, I hear a starting gun! Now is the perfect time to roast delicious food for hours in the oven. It's also important to me that a kitchen feels like a welcoming space to spend lots of time prepping and indulging. The warm copper metals make this kitchen feel so warm and cozy that they have me circling back for more pumpkin spice!
