what is old is new again: Installations

With all of the supply chain issues over the last few years, we saw a resurgence in repurposing antiques and used furniture. We like this trend for several reasons. Not only does it reduce waste, it lends character to a room with vintage, one-of-a-kind style.

That said, when you are looking to repurpose old pieces, make sure to take time to do it right. You want to update the piece while preserving its original character. These are some of our favorite projects.

REupholstered Sofa

Before:

This sofa was in her grandmother’s house and it had good structure. “Back in the day” it was covered in a brightly colored floral print.  This inspired a maximalist design for this basement rec room.  It was recently featured in Richmond Magazine.

After:

Mid Century Lighting

Mid Century Morris is an amazing resource for your Mid Century needs.  This lighting came from Italy and is such a funky shape.  We hung two over bedside tables.

Mission Desk

The desk followed him through the years and was part of his life.  We designed a larger built-in desk behind it for the real work to be done and this is used for extra paperwork and books.

Antique Built In and Breakfront

My client needed more storage so we worked with Branch Furniture Design to create a built in modeled after the breakfront adjacent to it in the room.

Repurposed Sink

We designed a custom vanity to show off all of the interesting colors and curves of this reclaimed sink from Caravati’s Inc. Architectural Salvage.

Singer Sewing Machine Makeover

There is nothing like an old singer sewing machine base!  The copper sink tops it off nicely.

fan fireplace

Furniture is not the only thing we update.  Preserving the old fireplace in this Fan home was a priority.

We brought it to life by partnering with Branch Furniture Design and surrounding it with beautiful built ins.
